About

Christopher Young is Professor of Organ at the Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, IN, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate organ majors and the four-semester graduate organ literature cycle.

Dr. Young has performed recitals on three continents and has been heard on Minnesota Public Radio’s nationally syndicated Pipedreams. He was a featured soloist at the 2000 American Guild of Organists National Convention and several AGO regional conventions. Recital and teaching engagements have taken him to Sweden, where he performed on the famous Leufstabruk organ, as well as to Korea. Dr. Young has also appeared in concert with the Rochester (MN) Chamber Chorale, the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, and with his wife, violinist Brenda Brenner.

In addition to concertizing, Dr. Young presents master classes, workshops and lectures. He has presented for National Pedagogy Conferences, given classes and performances at several church music clinics, including Montreat and St. Olaf. His students maintain careers as performers, church musicians, and many have been successful in competitions. Dr. Young has also served as an adjudicator for a number of national and regional competitions.

He serves as Organist at the First Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, IN, where he was instrumental in the acquisition of a new Paul Fritts organ, Opus 41.

Winner of the 1988 AGO National Young Artists Competition, Dr. Young holds degrees from Bates College (Phi Beta Kappa with High Honors in Music) and The Eastman School of Music (MM/DMA, Performer’s Certificate). His primary study was with Marion Anderson, David Craighead, and Russell Saunders.
