Mental wellness is a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can make a positive contribution to his or her community. Wellness also affects how we relate to others and our ability to deliberate choices. Performance anxiety can come in all forms, including performing concerts, dealing with tough work situations, or public speaking.
This seminar will discuss the symptoms, causes, treatments, and "tricks of the trade" to overcoming performance anxiety while also covering other physical health options that benefit us mentally: yoga, meditation, breathing practice, and self-care. I hope to educate and inspire fellow organists to create a healthier overall being mentally and physically so that they may lead happy and healthy lives while also realizing their fullest potential as individuals and musicians.
