About

The Rev. Barbara Day Miller served as Associate Dean of Worship and Music at the Candler School of Theology from 1997-2016, overseeing the planning, coordination, and facilitation of Candler’s worship and ceremonial life, and teaching courses in Liturgical Practices, Writing Prayers, and Planning Worship. She was also the director of the Candler Singers, an elite choir of seminary students.

Barbara has served as worship coordinator and music leader at many national events for the United Methodist Church, including the 2004 General Conference. She is the author of Encounters with the Holy: A Conversational Model for Worship Planning (Alban Institute, 2010) and The New Pastor’s Guide to Leading Worship (Abingdon Press, 2005). She continues as a consultant to churches and clergy in the areas of worship planning, liturgical leadership, and global hymns and songs. She loves gardening, traveling, writing, and bluegrass music.
