About

Michael Velting is Canon for Music at Christ Church Cathedral, Nashville, where since 1994 he has been Principal Organist and Director of Cathedral Choirs. Previously he was Assistant Organist/Choirmaster of Washington National Cathedral and Adjunct Professor of Organ at the American University.

He holds the Masters and Doctorate in Organ Performance/Literature from the Eastman School of Music in the class of David Craighead. From 1982-1986 he lived in Paris, France, winning the Prix de Virtuosité in the class of Marie-Claire Alain (Conservatoire National de Région, Rueil-Malmaison), and studying organ with Daniel Roth. He was Organist of the American Cathedral in Paris from 1984-1986.

Dr. Velting is active in the American Guild of Organists (National Councillor for Conventions, Performance Chair for the 2012 National Convention, former Dean of the Nashville Chapter), and the Association of Anglican Musicians.
